Fall Ball Rules

The rules in this section are considered "ground rules".  If there is a ruling in question and there is no rule listed in the ground rules that solve the ruling in question, then the ruling by the umpire will be governed by the 2009 Little League Rule Book.  This applies for baseball and softball.

Softball

7 & 8 Coach Pitch

GenR - General Rules
           A.  Coaches who are not pitching must remain in
                foul territory until play is stopped.
           B.  No coach will be allowed to make physical contact
                with a player while play is live, such as touching
                a player while directing her to the next base.
              1.  should a coach interfer with a player of live ball
                   will result in that player being out.  On a second
                   violation, the coach will not be allowed to be a
                   base coach for the remainder of that game.
           C.  Swearing is not tolerated.  Please keep the game
                clean.  Excessive swearing may result in a coach
                being ejected from the games for that day.
               1.  If a coach is ejected from a game, that coach will
                    not be allowed to participate in any additional games
                    that day.

GR1 - Pitching
          A.  This is a Coach Pitch League.  The players do not pitch
          B.  Coaches or parents are allowed to pitch. 
               No one under 18 is allowed to pitch to the players.
          C.  A circle is to be marked around the pitching mound. 
               The pitcher must remain in that circle while pitching.

GR2 - Batting
          A.  Every kid bats
          B.  Each team continues to bat util there are 3 outs
          C.  Each kid gets 5 pitches.
               1.  The batter is allowed to continue batting as long
                    as the batter does not have 3 stirkes or fouls off
                    the fifth pitch and consecutive pitches
                   a.  if the batter fouls the fifth pitch but swings and
                        misses the sixth pitch, she is out, even if there
                        are only two strikes.

GR3 - Runners
          A.  There is no head first sliding.
               1.  Any player who slides head first will be out.
          B.  If a runner runs out of the baseline to
               avoid a tag, the runner is out
               2.  The runner is allowed to attempt to cause
                    the fielder to miss them with the tag.
                    this rule is intended to call out the runner
                    who runs at least three feet or more out
                    of the way to avoid a tag.  This rule is a
                    judgement call only decided by an umpire.
          C.  Runners may not advance except when a ball is hit.

GR4 - Fielders
          A.  No fielder will be allowed to block a bag,
               even if the child does not realize it, without
               control of the ball.
               1.  If a bag is blocked by a fielder without 
                    control of the ball will result in the runner
                    being safe at that bag.
          B.  Each team is allowed to play all their players in the field
               1.  The infield must be a regular infield.
                    a.  In other words, one first baseman, one second 
                         baseman, one third baseman and so on.
          C.  Playing with less than 9 players.
               1.  A team may elect to play with as few as 7 players
                    a.  If your team is only able to play with 8 players, you 
                         must take one out just following your last batter
                         (just before the top batter in the order comes up
                          to bat.)
                    b.  If your team is only able to play with 7 players, you
                         must take two outs just following your last batter.
                         1a.  egs.  you have 8 players, you have one out
                                and the 8th batter hits the ball and gets put
                                out at first, that is out number two and out
                                number three.  Your first batter will
                                wait until the next inning.
                                1aa.  if you have a runner on third base and 
                                        that runner crosses the plate at the same
                                        time as egs 1a., that run does not count!

9 & 10 Intermediate

11 & 12 Major


Baseball

10 & 11 Major

GenR - General Rules

A.  The rules for the 12U below do not apply to the 10 & 11 Majors

GR1 - Pitching

A.  Pictchers may pitch a total of 6 innings in a weekend.
B.  A pitcher may not be pulled in a game and re-enter as pitcher.
C.  A pitcher may catch and a catcher may pitch.
     1.  There is not a restriction on allowing the catcher to go pitch
     2.  There is not a restriction on allowing a pitcher to catch.
D.  The distance is Little League standard 46'.

GR2 - Batting

A.  Every player bats in a game, up to 15 players.
B.  Big Barrels are not allowed in the Major Division.
C.  Batter will not be allowed to advance on a drop third strike.
D.  Playing with less than 9 players
     1.  a team will be allowed to play with as few as 7 players
     2.  one out will be taken when a team only has 8 players
          at the 9th batter position
     3.  two outs will be taken when a team only has 7 players
         at the 8th and 9th batter positions.

GR3 - Runners

A.  A runner on base may not leave the bag until the ball has crossed
     the plate.
B.  A runner may advance on a pass ball.
C.  There are no lead-offs in Majors.
D.  A runner may dive head first back into a bag, but may not dive head
     first while advancing to a bag.
     1.  This rule is designed for safety. 

12U Lead-off

GenR - General Rules

GR1 - Pitching
          A.  A pitcher will be allowed to pitch a total
               of 7 innings in a weekend.
          B.  A pitcher who is pulled from a game will
               be elligable to re-enter the very same
               game as a pitcher
               1.  Exception to GR1 B., if the pitcher has
                    pitched a total of 7 innings for the
                    weekend, that player may not re-enter
                    as a pitcher in that game.
          C.  The pitching distance will be 52' from the plate

GR2 - Batting
          A.  Batters are allowed to use a Big Barrell Bat.
          B.  During Pool play, all players will bat.
          C.  During Tournament play, only the 9 fielders
               will be allowed to bat. 
               1.  Exception to rule GR2 C., A coach may elect
                    to bat an extra player (EP).
                    a.  The coach must bat the same player as the
                         extra player the entire game.  The EP does
                         not play the field.
          D.  The batter may advance to first base on a droped
               third strike, provided there is not a runner occupying
               first base.
